This week will be our introduction to Rates and Ratio Reasoning. Today (Monday), we spent some time going over the vocabulary for these chapters. Students need to be practicing these words to ensure they are ready for each weekly quiz. Tuesday through Thursday, we will work on determining if rates are equivalent or proportional, and writing rates as unit rates. Students will get their Ticket to Test (homework) on Wednesday, and Friday will be our first weekly quiz over these new chapters.
With only 21 more school days before Winter Break, we will be starting our final chapters of this semester: Rates & Ratio Reasoning. These two chapters are very similar to, and build upon our last chapter, Ratios. Students should continue reviewing their material from the Ratios chapter because these topics are so closely related. Please refer to the Resources by Chapter pages for each chapter for additional support.

Wednesday, students will be practicing writing equivalent ratios with both lesser and greater terms. They will also receive their homework/Ticket to Test that day, which will be due on Friday in order to take the quiz. On Thursday, we will review the material from this week and last to ensure the students are prepared for the quiz that we will take on Friday. As I mentioned in my previous update, there are resources available under the Ratios page within the "Resources by Chapter" section of the website if your student needs a little more support with this material.
I have added a new feature to our classroom website. In addition to the general Resources tab, I have also added a tab called Resources by Chapter. In this section of the website, you will find resources specific to each standard we cover in math class. These pages will include videos, worksheets, vocabulary, and anything else I can find to support the students' success.
This week students will be starting the Ratios chapter. We will begin with vocab on Wednesday and some basic introductory ratio concepts on Thursday. Students will get their first homework over this material Wednesday which is due Friday in order to take the quiz.
Students will also be given additional opportunities to show mastery of these Decimal Fluency skills on Exit Tickets throughout the week. The Performance Task (4.0 opportunity) will be given on Thursday during the shortened day schedule. Please be sure your students are in attendance to take the performance task for this chapter.
Also, I just wanted to give another friendly reminder that Parent-Teacher conferences are this Wednesday from 4-7pm and Thursday from 1-7pm. I will have your child's Decimal Fluency score for you at that time, even though it will not be reflected on their First Quarter grade card. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Because I will be gone in the afternoon this Friday, the weekly quiz will be moved up to Thursday with homework being moved up to Tuesday. On Friday, the students will be reviewing multiplying and dividing fractions with the sub to ensure they still remember previous chapters.
We are incorporating a new online resource today in math class. Learn more about it here!
Be sure to check out my EduCreations videos that I'm posting on our classroom website! They are examples of how to do each skill on our new Decimal Fluency checklist. I will update these as we learn new skills.
